Full Discretionary Trust

Discretionary trust where the Settlor gives the trustee the discretion to invest the trust fund and to distribute the trust income and capital at the trustees discretion, often added by reference to a letter of wishes.

Grantor Trusts

Are a useful way to set up trusts where there may be US resident beneficiaries and can legally defer the imposition of otherwise onerous tax and reporting obligations on the beneficiary.Very specific drafting is required to validly create a    Grantor Trust for which we work with advisers who are well versed in such structures.

Life InterestTrusts

Is a type of trust where there is a right for a beneficiary to receive the income generated by the trust during his or her lifetime or for a determined period.Trust capital is then administered and distributed subject to the rights of the income beneficiary.

Private Trust Companies

Are an attractive alternate for very wealthy families who wish to maintain a greater degree of control over the administration of the trust.Horizon can act as administrator of the PTC the Board of which will comprise of family members or their advisers.

Foundations

Unlike trusts, foundations are separate legal entities.Validity depends solely on the Certificate of Registration, so there is greater certainty than with trusts. Foundations are managed by a Foundation Council, like the board of directors of a  company.

Foundations cannot trade, but otherwise they can do anything lawful, including owning trading companies, therefore offering significant flexibility.
